Mayor confident in Tesla’s hiring diverse workforce at Solar City

Panasonic has hired nearly 400-people to work at Tesla's Solar City Riverbend in south Buffalo. Tesla has been cutting back its workforce nationwide in the electric car industry. But last month a career fair was held to hire more Buffalo residents at Solar City. WBFO News asked Mayor Byron Brown if he has confidence in the future of Tesla in the city.

“I think that hiring will continue. I don’t think anyone should be concerned about the job commitments. It’s still early in the process. The facility isn’t 100-percent built out yet, so hiring will continue,” responded Mayor Brown.

Mayor Brown is also keeping a close watch on the hiring opportunities, making sure it remains a diverse workforce. Brown said they continue to stress the importance of diversity in hiring to Panasonic and Tesla.

“I am always keeping track of the diversity of the hiring and workforce,” Mayor Brown remarked. “And we are always stressing to Solar City Tesla and other employers the importance of diversity and hiring because the more our workforce looks like our community, the stronger the entire community will be.”
