Looking to boost Black Friday, Buffalo eases parking rules

Mike Desmond/WBFO

Buffalo City Hall is making it easier to shop in the city for this hard-core shopping weekend.

"We want to encourage people to shop in the city on Black Friday," Mayor Brown announced Tuesday.

"(On) Friday November 24. We want to encourage people to shop in the city and all metered parking sites in all of the shopping districts throughout the City of Buffalo will be free."

Shoppers and city retail stores should benefit from this relatively mild weather. The mayor is also hoping city residents allow their sense of civic support to lead them to Buffalo stores for Small Business Saturday.

"This Saturday, coming, we want to remind people throughout Buffalo and Western New York to shop at small businesses in the City of Buffalo. We have a lot of great small businesses. Many of them are running specials."

For the second time this season, Mayor Brown is again pushing back the start of the winter ban on parking on bus routes to December 1.

"In some of our neighborhoods, we don't have a lot of off-street parking so having the ability to park at a bus route is certainly very helpful and very convenient for a lot of our residents."
