Three proposals submitted for downtown grocery store

Mayor Byron Brown said the city has received three proposals for a new grocery store at 201 Ellicott Street on a site that is currently a parking lot. Although he would not disclose more details, Brown said the city is pleased with the proposals and each development group has a strong reputation and background.

“We believe it’s good news for the City of Buffalo, good news for downtown and good news for people who are looking to see certain developments in downtown Buffalo,” Brown said.

Brown also said his future plans for the city-owned site includes condos, a parking structure and potentially another retail or office building. For now, the review process for the grocery store proposals is in progress.

“I would suspect that that process is going to take weeks more, maybe as much as close to a month in time for review to make sure that we are doing it right,” Brown said. “After that review and selection process, then an announcement will be made.”
