Minority and women-owned business are encouraged to learn more about bid opportunities and strategies later today. The Dormitory Authority of New York State will be in Buffalo Wednesday to host a business outreach and networking event at the Hyatt Regency.  The Dormitory Authority helps facilitate finance and construction.

WBFO News spoke with Paul Williams, president and CEO of the Authority.  Williams notes that the state has reached a record 21-percent of women and minority businesses, exceeding the state goal of 20-percent.

"And that reflects spending from 97-separate public agencies and authorities and a dollar amount of nearly  one-and-a-half-billion dollars in contract amount to companies that are minority and women owned. That was a record achievement," said Williams.

Among some of the local agencies that will be part of the DASNY event at the Hyatt Regency include Buffalo's Canalside, the Erie County Medical Center, University at Buffalo and the Buffalo Niagara Medical campus.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown will also begin the event at 3 p.m.
