KeyBank kas announced it will close ten area branches in July and August. A KeyBank executive tells The Buffalo News that the closings are to eliminate duplication of services. KeyBank obtained some HSBC branches as part of the First Niagara takeover of HSBC's New York State operations in 2012.
The ten branches to close and merge are within a quarter or a half mile of other branches. Seven of the ten branches were originally part of the HSBC network.
The branches that are to close include locations in Buffalo, Depew, Hamburg, Orchard Park, Kenmore, Clarence, and Lockport.
Most of the approximately 60 employees of the affected branches will be transferred to other KeyBank branches.
When completed, KeyBank will have 62 branches serving Western New York.
