ECIDA grants tax breaks to Delaware North HQ

File photo

The Erie County Industrial Development Agency voted unanimously Monday morning in favor of sales tax abatements for planned new corporate headquarters for Delaware North Companies. The project is part of an office and hotel tower proposed by Uniland Development Co. at Delaware and Chippewa downtown. The Delaware North abatements total about $807,000. Both Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz spoke in favor of the tax credits.

Uniland has a separate application for its own set of tax breaks for the project. A public hearing on that issue is set for next Monday, with the ECIDA to consider the credits next month. Uniland says the approval is necessary for the project to proceed.

“We are pleased that the Mayor and County Executive stated that they each support the 250 Delaware project,” said Uniland spokeswoman Jill Pawlik. “We look forward to demonstrating to the IDA that our application for standard inducements also merits approval. The approval is necessary to proceed with the project.”

The offices would be part of a mixed-use complex on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Chippewa Street, which would also include retail space.
