Council committee okays two outdoor patios on Hertel Avenue

WBFO News by photo Mike Desmond

The Buffalo Common Council's Legislation Committee on Tuesday approved requests for two new sidewalk cafes along Hertel Avenue. The committee also cleared the way for construction of a restaurant and apartment on Bailey Avenue.

Delaware District Common Council member Michael LoCurto, who represents Hertel Avenue and its special zoning district, says the addition of the two outdoor eating areas is the sign of a strong shopping district anywhere in the city.

LoCurto says workers from the Public Works Department actually go out and measure the patios to make sure they meet all of the rules and allow pedestrians to walk by.

One is for a restaurant new owners want to re-open for wood-burning oven pizzas. The other is for Globe Market in the North Park Theater building.

Council committee chairman Darius Pridgen believes the requests represent a growing, positive trend for the city.
