Luxury hotel proposed for Niagara Falls

A deteriorating and vacant building in a high-visibility location in Niagara Falls may soon be a luxury hotel. The owner of the Niagara Falls EconoLodge wants to convert the old Moore Business Forms building next to the off-ramp from the Robert Moses Parkway. It would become an 84-bed Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

Owner B.F. Patel said the project will cost nearly $7 million to renovate the existing building and add a third-floor to the structure. Patel is asking the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency for a series of tax breaks covering more than ten years to make the project work.

Patel said the building is a good candidate for conversion.

"[It's a ] wide open building, a very simple building. Two stories are ready to make a partition and make a room and the Courtyard by Marriott people, they came and their engineer and everybody was there. They looked at the building. They approved the building for Courtyard by Marriott and we are to build the third floor," said Patel.

Patel said the hotel is aimed at longer-stay customers, different from the tourists who fill the nearby Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel.
