Catholic Health, the area's second-largest health care provider, has announced plans to build a new six-story administration building along the Elm-Oak Arterial downtown.
Groundbreaking for the $46 million headquarters and training facility is scheduled for October 30, with completion projected for the summer of 2014. The new building will be at 144 Genesee Street, between Elm and Oak Streets, just south of the Kensington Expressway terminus.
The 140,000 square-foot facility, which will also include a parking garage for 700 vehicles, will consolidate eight satellite services into a single location. Officials say they will reinvest the savings into patient care.
The facility will be built by Uniland Development and leased to Catholic Health.
President and CEO Joe McDonald says the new building will provide ways for Catholic Health to save money.
"This opportunity will allow us to accommodate a reduction of, on average, $1 million per year in cost savings," McDonald told WBFO News.
Mayor Byron Brown expressed his pleasure in allocating $3.8 million in state development funds toward the project, with the potential for 700 new jobs.
