Greatbatch relocating headquarters to Dallas-Fort Worth

Clarence-based Greatbatch, Inc. is relocating its corporate headquarters to Frisco, Texas.

The medical device manufacturer announced today that some top executives will move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area this summer, and further shifts will be considered as warranted.  The company says the move will allow it to operate in a stronger, more centralized business environment.

Still, Greatbatch says it remains committed to its Western New York operations, where it has invested heavily.  The company employs 680 people in Clarence and Alden. A spokesman says Greatbatch will continue its manufacturing and R&D and its corporate services in Western New York.

Company President and CEO Tom Hook says the move of its headquarters will allow for global growth.

"Dallas, Texas is really an exceptional hub for us. It is a high-tech hub. It is an existing, vibrant medical device community already," Hook told WBFO and AM 970 News.

Hook says there are plans for future expansion at the Western New York operations.

Greatbatch, Inc. was founded by Wilson Greatbatch, the co-inventor of the ?rst successfully implanted pacemaker, in 1970.
