U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say a vehicle tried to cross from Canada to the United States without inspection Monday afternoon, leading officers on a chase that ended in a crash. In a statement, Aaron Bowker of the CBP Buffalo Field Office said the incident began about 2:30 p.m. He said a vehicle from Canada crossed the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge into the United States without inspection, then fled customs officers. Officers began a short pursuit, which ended when the vehicle struck a New York State Police vehicle.
Bowker said the suspect was taken into custody and minor injuries were reported. However, "due to a parallel federal and state investigation, (CBP) is not releasing any further information at this time."
