Ontario announces record $2.1B investment in mental health

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne has announced what she says is the biggest single investment in mental health care in Canadian history.

Wynne is promising $2.1 billion in additional funding over the next four years to make mental health services more accessible through a local doctor's office, school or community-based organization.

She says the plan would provide access to service for 12,000 more young people in 2018-2019 and add an additional mental health worker in every secondary school in the province. It would also increase access to publicly funded psychotherapy for up to 350,000 more people with mild to moderate anxiety or depression.

The announcement comes as the Liberals trail in opinion polls less than three months before the provincial election.
