After a one year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CEPA Gallery is returning and expanding its Oseroff Memorial Photography Purchase Prize event.
The photography contest is named for Dr. Allan Oseroff, the former Chief Dermatologist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Oseroff passed away in 2008 but during his time at Roswell he was well known for his love of the arts. His passion and his belief that patients in treatment should be in an environment which is agreeable to both physical and mental health led to artwork being installed in Roswell and the birth of photography contest after his passing said CEPA Gallery Executive Director Veronique Cote.
“He was also a photographer,” she said. “An avid photographer and a beloved and lover of art so he really believes in kind of a whole 360-degree way of approaching health mental health and physical health.”
After last year’s hiatus, Cote expand the number of prizes and the reach of the contest.
“We didn't want to administer it,” she said of taking a break from the contest in 2021. “So that's why this year we are doing three prizes instead of two we kind of giving a little bit more back. And we opening the contest to the entire United States just to give access to more art, we kind of realized that we wanted to open the collection so far in the past year was always a Western New York, open only to Western New York, but this year, we want to reach out to the entire US and reach out to a little bit more artists.”
Three different prizes are available to win and winners will have their artwork become a permanent part of the Roswell Park Alliance Art Committee and have their work displayed across the Roswell campus.
The deadline for submissions is March 31st.
