Theater Talk: Need a smile? ARTA Co-President Alexandria Watts has one for you

Jerry Seawood

The very happy Alexandria ("Alex") Watts, Co-President of ARTA (the Association of Regional Theater Artists) has graced almost every major stage in WNY as a Green Monster, a "Squirrelle," a flying bat, and a pinkie-up tea drinking Jane Austen herione ("Miss Bennet") among many others. She chats about the mission of ARTA to provide "Community, Advocacy, Education, and Opportunity" for local actors. And, of course, her laughter provides a much needed antidote to all the stresses of our times.

It's plain that Alexandria Watts enjoys talking about the organization designed to provide local actors with a support mechanism for the necessities of life as well as professional needs.

To join, visit their Facebook site an apply for membership. Although their very professionally produced online magazine SPOTLIGHT is available to members only, by special permission Theater Talk on WBFO has been granted permission to give all our listeners access to one issue in this case Volume 1, Edition 3. Kudos to Michael Walline (Editor in Chief, Layout and Art Editor) for a very slick 'zine (Table of Contents shown). You can read SPOTLIGHT here

With the goal of providing Camaraderie, Care, and Consistency, the Association of Regional Theater Artists is a membership association OF theater artists FOR theater artists, from all disciplines, working in theaters across Western New York.

The group states: "We’ve a common interest in the quality and value of our theatrical work and careers.
The mission of ARTA is to provide its members with community, advocacy, education and opportunity, in turn enhancing the richness of the live theater produced in our region."

And Watts certainly has made many friends in the local theater community, having performed a variety of roles.
