For over twenty-five years the Buffalo History Museum has hosted Thanksgiving weekend events at their Elmwood Avenue location.
This year is no different, with events Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday is Train Day, featuring a viewing of the museums model trains, a scavenger hunt and train-related crafts.
Saturday features a book signing with local authors.
Museum Retail Coordinator Ben Rosiek said Saturday’s event is a way to raise awareness for the authors and the museum.
“This year we have over 40 authors that are coming in,” he said. “Different topics that range from architecture, local interests, sports, historical fiction. Really anything.”
He said for authors, this time is a great opportunity to engage with fans.
On Sunday the Museum takes part in the international event, Museum Store Sunday. Rosiek said Museum Store Sunday features ornament making, hot chocolate and other Museum related promotions.
“It was kind of going off the idea of Small Business Saturday,” he said. “Where people can go out and participate in the local revenue. With this, it is helping people get out and be a patron to their local cultural institutions.”
Moving further into the holiday season the museum, for the first time ever, is offering gift wrapping every weekend in December.
