Theater Talk: Chautauqua Opera and Theater go 18th century; Shaw uses dramaturgs and dialect coaches

The Chautauqua Opera Company is gaga for the 18th century, wrapping up their opera trilogy  - BARBER OF SEVILLE and ¡FIGARO!(90210)  - on Saturday with THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLE, all based on plays by Beaumarchais. At the Bratton Theatre, they've updated Goldoni's ONE SERVANT, TWO MASTERS with ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. And the discussion continues about theater specialites which are more in demand - the dramaturg and the dialect coach.

THE BEAUMARCHAIS OPERA TRILOGY: Rossini's THE BARBER OF SEVILLE on Thursday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m.; Mozart/Guerrerio's ¡FIGARO!(90210) a modern version of THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO on Friday, July 26 at 4:00 p.m.; and Corigliano/Hoffman's THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES on Saturday, July 27 at 8:15 p.m. all inspired or based on plays by 18th century playwright Beaumarchais. The Rossini and Mozart operas are at the Norton Theatre on the Chautauqua Institution Ground (tickets required).
