The Buffalo History Museum has broken ground on the first phase of a $2 million restoration project.
When completed, this phase will enable visitors to enter the museum from the Japanese Gardens through its original entryway into gallery space that has been closed off for over 35 years.
Up to a third of the building, some 2,600 square feet, has been off limits to guests and displays due to water infiltration damage. The restoration will reconnect the museum with the Olmsted Park System.
The building was the only permanent building erected for the 1901 Pan American Exposition.
The first phase of construction is scheduled for completion this August, with the complete portico restoration project due to be done in fall 2021.
