Uncrowned Queens celebrating 20 years

Photo from Dr. Peggy Brooks Bertram Facebook

During Black History Month Buffalo's Uncrowned Queens has been calling on community members to help preserve stories for generations to come.  WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says the organization is celebrating its 20th year.

“To celebrate almost every month with some activities” remarked  Dr. Peggy Brooks Bertram, president, Uncrowned Queens Institute.

Brooks Bertram, co-founder the organization with Barbara Seals Nevergold, Buffalo School Board president.  This past weekend citizens were asked to bring their family photos, stories and bios at the Merriweather Library in Buffalo to upload onto the Uncrowned Community Builders website.

Brooks Bertram tells WBFO News given on-going racial divides in the country, it's important to preserve the heritage of African Americans in our community for future generation.
