The Scintas remember brother Joey

GoFundMe
Brothers Joey (left) and Frankie Scinta

The Scintas have been a musical staple from Buffalo's West Side for decades. However this year, the family is mourning the loss of one of their own.

On Nov. 4, Joey Scinta was taken by ambulance to the hospital in his adopted hometown of Las Vegas. He had a stroke - and then several more.

A GoFundMe page set up to help cover medical costs said, "As some of you may know, Joey Scinta has had a few scares with his health. We always laugh and say, 'He has 9 lives' because, whenever something happens, he always bounces back and fairly quickly. This time that hasn't been the case."

Scinta died Nov. 17. He was 69 years old.

On Friday night, some of the best local talent will assemble to celebrate the life and times of the bass- and guitar-playing brother, in the most familiar way known: through song, in front of fans. The free celebration will take place at downtown's Statler City 7-11 p.m. and is open to the public.

The celebration also comes before the Scintas' Christmas show on Saturday at the Riviera Theater in North Tonawanda.
