UB conference aims to reclaim ancestral history

"Gina's Journey: The Search for William Grimes" will be screened tonight at 7 at the Butler Mansion. It's the opening event for the three-day conference, "Reclaiming Our Ancestors II."

A three-day conference, "Reclaiming Our Ancestors II," begins tonight in Buffalo.  With artists, filmmakers, descendants of slaves and slaveholders, and scholars from around the country taking part, the event looks to counteract "an amnesiac culture," so says Kari Winter, professor of translational studies at UB. While most of the conference is free and open to the public, registration is required.

Outside of public media, he continues in longstanding roles as the public address announcer for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and as play-by-play voice of Canisius College basketball.
