On Saturday the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor hosted a watch party to view the opening day celebration of the Smithsonian's new National Museum of African American Heritage and Culture in Washington, DC.
President Obama spoke at the dedication ceremony. The corridor's commission chair, Karen Stanley Flemming says the mood at the local viewing was filled with anticipation and emotion.
The opening of the new National Museum of African American Heritage and Culture marks a historic day for many. In alignment with the Smithsonian's annual Museum Day Live, the corridor had free admission and tours of its museums until 4 p.m.
