The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is gearing up for what's being called a "monumental" public art installation this summer, one that's going to alter several structures across the City of Buffalo.
Bright, giant-size quilts will be installed on three prominent buildings across the city. To help pull it off, Albright-Knox Public Art Curator Aaron Ott says the artist, Brooklyn-based artist Amanda Browder, is seeking donations of new or recycled non-stretch fabric.
Ott says the bigger and bolder, the better.
"What the artist does is she prepares designs for the buildings in advance. And then preselects material for a specific public sewing day. And people can help cut the material, they can help pin it together. Or they can help sew. And we kind of make it a community event," Ott said.
Several sites are now accepting fabric donations. Ott says public sewing days are set to begin later this month.
