Shaw Festival presents 'Peter and the Starcatcher'

The Shaw Festival's production of "Peter and the Starcatcher" is drawing favorable reviews. One of the show's stars, actor Martin Happer, took time recently to discuss his role as Black Stache.

The play is based on the novel of the same name written by Dave Barry.

"This story is the pre-history of 'Peter Pan,'" Happer told WBFO's Mike Desmond.

"It's really neat the way he (Dave Barry) envisioned it, to see how Peter learned to fly, how he discovers 'Neverland,' how Hook comes to be the villain that we know him to be."

In discussing his career, Happper looked back to his pre-teen years and shared some of the  influences that helped to shape his craft.

"I was watching 'In Living Color' with Jim Carrey," Happer recalled.

"I would say in watching him in all those sketches doing 'Fire Marshall Bill' and the various things, that's where I cultivated some of that comedy that I enjoy."

"Peter and the Starcatcher" is on stage through November 1 at the Shaw Festival.
