Canalside summer concert lineup spans musical genres

One of the biggest draws to downtown Buffalo's waterfront each summer is the Thursday concert series at Canalside.  This year will be no different, with a diverse lineup of 12 acts unveiled Wednesday. Among the highlights are the 90s R&B girl group En Vogue, indie rock superstars Spoon, ska favorites The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and the Canadian band The Sheepdogs.

Global Spectrum General Manager Ryan Coate says organizers strive to book a diverse lineup each summer.

"We want to make sure that all music-goers can come down and enjoy a diverse lineup from different genres of music. We have alternative indie, classic rock, 90s throwback. That is something that, as we're booking our Thursday lineup, we always keep in mind," Coate told WBFO.

Coate says local talent will have a chance to get some exposure in a Battle of the Bands contest. There will also be a "Music and Dance" component on the boardwalk where visitors can learn different styles of dance.

The Thursday concerts at the water's edge are free.  The series runs from June 4 to August 20. Shows start at 6 p.m. The lineup is as follows:

  • June 4: Matt and Kim with Bearstronaut and Made Violent
  • June 11: Arkells with Robert DeLong and Milo Greene
  • June 18: Everclear with Fuel and American HiFi
  • June 25: Spoon with July Talk
  • July 2: The Sheepdogs with Yonder Mountain String Band
