Press Pass: WNY celebrates fall and a conversation with Jake Halpern

The Ellicottville Fall Festival begins this Friday.  Kids always enjoy the fun at Pumpkinville in Great Valley or the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence.  And there are any number of Octoberfest celebrations.  It's all part of fall in Western New York.More from WBFO's Mark Scott and Buffalo Spree's Elizabeth Licata in this week's Press Pass.

The October issue of Buffalo Spree is all about Fall in Western New York.  The big thing attraction is the season is the brilliant foliage, especially in the hills and valleys of rural Western New York.  If you're looking for something special, Elizabeth recommends the DeVeax Woods State Park near the Niagara Gorge, where you'll find a 315-year-old tree.

Also from the October issue is a transcript of Elizabeth's interview with nationally-known writer -- and native son -- Jake Halpern.  His latest project, a non-fiction work titled "Bad Paper," deals with the debt collection industry, specifically here in Buffalo.

One other item of note from October is a story that explores the region moving forward and what we want Buffalo-Niagara to look like in 40 years.
