Press Pass: Buffalo Spree on WNY writers

The October issue of Buffalo Spree features a look at Western New York writers. The magazine's editor, Elizabeth Licata, says the Internet has opened up new opportunities for writers. She joins WBFO's Mark Scott on this week's Press Pass.

The Buffalo area has a rich writing tradition.  Elizabeth Licata says it started with Mark Twain in 1869 and continues to this day with such writers as Joyce Carol Oates and Lauren Belfer. There was the legendary English Department at the University at Buffalo in the 1960s.

The October issue profiles more than a dozen current writers, including blogger Alan Bedenko, Buffalo News reporter Dan Herbeck and playwright Gary Earl Ross.

Mark and Elizabeth debate the appropriateness of Bedenko's use of four-letter words in blog posts and they discuss whether tweeting is a form of writing.
