Widely popular musical The Book of Mormon coming to Shea's

A widely popular Broadway show is heading to Shea's Performing Arts Center next week.  The Book of Mormon-- a Tony Award winning musical -- will be on  stage starting Tuesday, June 11 and running through June 16 for eight shows.  As WBFO'S Eileen Buckley reports, a lottery ticket policy is being followed for the production.

"At this time, the only way you can get tickets to see The Book of Mormon at Shea's is too try to get tickets through the lottery," said Lisa Grisanti, director of Marketing and Public Relations at Shea's.

There will be a pre-show lottery at the Shea's box office.  It will limit the number of tickets for each show.

"Within two and a half hours of show time, for each performance, you would have to show up at our box office, and basically put your name and bring identification, to be entered into the lottery, and then a couple of hours before curtain names are drawn, at random, for the limited number of tickets, priced at $25 each," said Grisanti.

The lottery program builds even more excitement around the popularity this musical.  It is the winner of nine Tony awards -- including "best musical" -- making it a huge must see for many theater goers.

Grisanti calls the show a "block buster."

"It's sort of a satire, but a playful send up of really all organized religions, while delivering a powerful and uplifting message," said Grisanti.

The musical features the works ofTrey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the animated television series "South Park"and Tony Award-winner Robert Lopez. co-creator of the hit musical comedy Avenue Q.
