The War of 1812 will be the theme of the Buffalo History Museum's new fundraising event this Friday. The first-ever Wine War will be held at Hotel @ the Lafayette. The History Museum has subtitled the event a "Spirited Skirmishes across the Niagara Frontier".
"It's hinged on our upcoming exhibit -- the War of 1812 exhibit that's opening in September, and we're going to be showing a little sneak peak preview of some of the artifacts," said Caldwell.
Connie Caldwell is director of communications at the Buffalo History Museum. The Pop Up Exhibit will be featured at this Friday's Wine War event. If you are interested in history and the War of 1812, you can get a view of items from the Museum's permanent collection.
"There's a musket that was used by Samuel Evers in defense of Buffalo 1812 enthusiasts would love to see that," said Caldwell. "There's a picture. There's a powder horn and it's engraved an it was found on the Chippewa battlefield on July 5, 1814."
Along with the sneak peek of firearms to be featured in the Museum exhibit "By Fire and Sword: The War in the Niagara Theatre"
One of the major artifacts includes a saber used by Major General Peter B. Porter in the War of 1812.
"I think people are always fascinated to know that indeed there was a war in Buffalo, and it burned in 1813," said Caldwell.
The Wine War will feature wine tastings from vineyards from both side of the border -- from Southern Ontario and New York State.
