By this time next year, Buffalo's Kleinhans Music Hall will be operating much more efficiently.
Mayor Byron Brown says in an effort to offer concert goers a top notch musical experience, the city's capital budget includes $668,000 for heating and air conditioning upgrades at Kleinhans.
"The support of the city has really upheld Kleinhans as one of the most spectacular venues for an orchestra in America. Everybody who comes to visit this place says how special it is and what a great sound it is," said the Hall's Executive Director Dan Hart.
But Hart points out a 75-year-old building needs constant upkeep.
"The fact is the chiller system was 30-years-old, breaking down all the time."
Kleinhans Board President Catherine Schweitzer says more than 200,000 people use the building every year and without the city's investment, the air conditioning might not work.
Along with providing more reliable heating and cooling, the new energy efficient HVAC system is expected to reduce electricity consumption by 50-percent and cut Kleinhans' water usage by nearly 11 million gallons a year.
The project should be complete next fall.
