Buffalo furniture company goes Hollywood

Chris Caya/WBFO News

A Buffalo based manufacturer with roots stretching back nearly 150 years is filling an unusual order.

The Kittinger Furniture Company has been commissioned to build replicas for an upcoming thriller set in the White House.

Kittinger has made furniture for presidents for the past several decades. Sony Pictures has commissioned the company to replicate the furniture now being used in the Oval Office.

Kittinger President Raymond Bialkowski says the producers were excited to work with his company because Kittinger already had all the designs for the pieces, which saved the production company hours of research.

"One reason they come to Kittinger is because of our old type of manufacturing process. We produce furniture that is made like it was made 100 years ago," said Bialkowski.

The furniture is going to be used by an all-star cast including Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx and Maggie Gyllenhaal on the set of White House Down. The script is under wraps, but Bialkowski says he has been told it involves the President being held hostage by a paramilitary group.

"We know for sure there are going to be some scenes where they are going to explode some of our product. Fortunate for us, it created a larger order. But it's going to be sad to see some of our product actually destroyed in this movie," he said.

Bialkowski says three sets of reproduction Oval Office furniture, about 30 pieces, will be shipped out of his Main Street facility by the end of next week.

The movie is scheduled for release next summer.
