Guilty verdict in shooting death of 15-year-old girl

A jury has found a Buffalo gang member guilty of second-degree murder in the 2010 shooting death of a 15-year-old girl.

Prosecutors say Dominique Maye was an innocent bystander in an attempted hit on a gang member, who is the slain girl’s brother.   Jurors determined that bullet came from the assault rifle of 25-year-old Kevin Davis II, a member of the Gangster Disciples gang and a Navy veteran.

Maye, who was a 9th grade student at Riverside Institute of Technology,  was shot in the heart while sitting in her aunt’s Hewitt Avenue home on the city’s East Side on September 30, 2010.  She died soon thereafter.

Davis faces a possible sentence of 25-years-to-life in prison.
