Mickey Kearns win in the 145th Assembly district, according to Buffalo News political reporter Bob McCarthy, can be attributed to name recognition and attaching his opponent to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

McCarthy also notes how state Republicans are optimistic over their chances to oust Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and how Kathy Hochul's newly-configured district could make for a difficult reelection.
