Calls to stop the downsizing and job cuts at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station are being heard at the Pentagon.
Following a meeting late Wednesday night, Congresswoman Kathy Hochul announced Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta will schedule a visit to the Reserve Station.
"That was after a long conversation we had about the strengths. The value of this base to this region," said Hochul. "The details on the visit, again he's answered on the spot when I invited him to come, so now we are working on the details with his staff."
"I think it's loud and clear to the Pentagon that we have a very united voice that we speak from, and we have very compelling arguments to have for a new mission, if in fact they decide not to continue the C-130," said Hochul.
Hohcul said she will ask Panetta to consider the $80 million in upgrades and investment to the Falls base that houses both the Reserve and National Guard.
If Congress approves Pentagon cuts, it could mean the loss of about 800 jobs at the Falls base.
