Two alarm fire on Court Street in downtown Buffalo

A two-alarm fire broke out at a downtown Buffalo building just before 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Buffalo Fire fighters quickly brought the blaze at 43 Court Street under control.  Smoke and flames poured out of the upper floor window.

The building is located between Niagara Square and the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.  WBFO'S Michael Mroziak was on the scene.  He tells us the fire originated on the 8th floor of the tower building that houses several offices and law firms.  The building was evacuated.

Erie County Executive spokesman Pete Anderson also tells WBFO News the building also housed a couple of County Social Service offices. Everyone got out okay and there were no injuries reported.

Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield said they responded to the fire at 10:52 a.m. Tuesday and called for a second alarm when they arrived.

Whitfield praised fire crews for their work.

"This is not what we do on a daily basis.  This is something different -- a high rise building, but they did a great job," said Whitfield.

Michael Mroziak is an experienced, award-winning reporter whose career includes work in broadcast and print media. When he joined the WBFO news staff in April 2015, it was a return to both the radio station and to Horizons Plaza.
