A historic boat house was saved from being condemned Tuesday. The Buffalo Common Council voted unanimously to preserve the Erie Freight House located in the old first ward community.
The boat house was built in the civil war era will now have full landmark status allowing it to receive tax credits in the future.
Fillmore District Common Council Member David Franczyk said the building dates back to when Buffalo was one of the top port sites in the country.
"This is authentic, it's not faux. It's not make believe, it's not something that was created as a prop. It's something that is original to the site that some pretty heavy preservationists and developers say they can do something with the building," said Franczyk.
Franczyk said with the with the announcement of the renovation at canalside the building will fit right in. He said having this piece of history on the waterfront is good for the development and the people who live in Buffalo.
