Central Terminal

Buffalo's Central Terminal has emerged as the big winner in the National Trust Buffalo Challenge.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company announced that Buffalo’s Central Terminal has received the most votes winning a $10,000 preservation grant.

The Central Terminal competed against three other local sites -- the Colored Musicians Club, Graycliff, and the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site.

Valecia Crisafulli is Vice President for Partnerships at the National Trust.  She said places like the Central Terminal are "truly irreplaceable".

The National Trust held its conference in Buffalo in October.  Crisafulli said the effort to restore the Terminal is "on the right track."

Marty Biniaz is chair of marketing and public relations for Central Terminal restoration.  He said the grant will be used to leverage additional grant money for on-going restoration.

"We are going to be using the $10,000 grant money from the National Preservation Trust to use for matching funds for additional grants,"

The Buffalo Challenge allowed the region to rally around historic places in the Queen City for a week- long, online voting competition.

"The community of Buffalo is to be so commended for the groups that have rallied behind the Terminal and kept it alive," said Crisafulli.  "I think in the end, you are really going to be successful. If we can be a catalyst that's what we want."
