While the day after Thanksgiving symbolizes a day known as Black Friday, with door busting shopping deals for consumers, marking the start of the holiday shopping season, it also is a day of protesting nation-wide.

Friday is also a day that animal rights advocates from around the globe joint in “Fur Free Friday” protests, demonstrating against the use of animal furs and leather for coats and other consumer goods.

In Amherst local fur protestors are staging a noon-time demonstration outside Furs by Russell at 4446 Main Street. Protestors will be rallying against what they say is the killing of animals for fur. They will wave signs in protesting stating "HAVE A HEART, DON'T WEAR FUR!" and "COMPASSION IS THE FASHION," in an effort to raise public awareness about the egregious cruelty involved in the fur trade.

“Victims of the fur trade suffer in silence until the day their lives are extinguished by the most cruel methods, including electrocution and poisoning,” said Morgan Dunbar, spokesperson for Friday's protest. “This hideous cruelty is hidden from consumers who may not know that each fur article comes with an unimaginable amount of agony. Together we will stand as one unified voice for the victims of the fur trade to spread awareness and see an end to this barbaric trade.”
