Democratic candidate for Erie County Clerk has conceded.  Whyte called Republican Chris Jacobs Friday morning.

Whyte issued a written statement.  She says although the Board of Elections still has work to do to certify the outcome of the race -- she called Jacobs to acknowledge that it seems highly unlikely she will obtain the number of votes needed to win.

Whyte was a county legislator, but lost her seat to run for Clerk.  Whyte said it has been a great honor and hold public office and serve the residents of the 6th legislative district over the past 6 years.

WBFO News has reached out to by Whyte and Jacobs for an interview, but calls have not been returned.

The following is the written statement issued by Whyte:

“I spoke with Chris Jacobs this morning.  Although the Board of Elections still has work to do to certify the outcome of the race, I called him to acknowledge that it seems highly unlikely I will obtain the number of votes necessary to overcome the gap between us.  It has been a great honor and pleasure to participate in our democracy by holding public office and serving the residents of the 6th legislative district over the past 6 years.  I am tremendously proud of all we accomplished in the district.  I look forward to new and different opportunities to serve the public, work for the good of our community, and participate in our centuries old democracy.”
