A former Buffalo politician urges more women to get involved in politics.  Former Erie County Legislator Joan Bozer encourages new generations to consider a run for office.

Quoting two great women who lead the suffrage movement,  Bozer said she would like to see more females become politically active.. She notes that the number of women in the House of Representatives remains low.

"Today only 16% of members of U.S. Congress are women. 16%...There just so outnumbered and we do need women's vision," said Bozer.

Bozer calls that a "national disgrace.  She truly believes women need to step up and get involved in the political process.

Bozer, who served as an  Erie County Legislator from 1978 through 1995, was proud of her political career.

"I loved every moment of it it was exhilarating. I never in a millionaire years dreamed I would ever do anything like that," said Bozer.

Bozer said more women are needed to run for Congress to move the country forward.  Among Bozer's major accomplishments early on in her political career was her fight to save the former downtown post office building from the wrecking ball. Today it houses Erie Community College's downtown campus.
