Erie County Executive issues proposed budget

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Executive Chris Collins has prepared a spending plan of slightly more than $1 billion that holds the line on taxes, but calls for 155 layoffs.

Collins presented highlights of from the County budget to the Buffalo News. All told, more than 300 jobs will be eliminated, roughly half of those positions however are currently vacant.

Collins said he also plans to spend $7 million of the County's $72-million surplus to offset a debt at the ECMC and to pay for a portion of the County's library subsidy.

Collins held a news conference Friday morning to outline his proposed 2012 County Budget to reporters.

Collins plans on sending the budget to the legislature Friday.
