Buffalo, NY – There is a new leader for the 144th state Assembly District. Sean Ryan, the endorsed Democratic candidate has been declared the winner in a special election.

Ryan delivered his acceptance speech to supporters around 10'o'clock Tuesday night. With 90% of the vote counted, Ryan defeated republican candidate Sean Kipp and Green Party candidate Greogory Horn. Ryan received 71%, Kipp 22% and Horn 7%.

Ryan fills the seat left vacant by long time Assemblyman Sam Hoyt. Hoyt left the seat this summer to accept a job in the Cuomo administration.

The 144th District covers part of Buffalo and Grand Island.
