UB holds 9/11 observance

By WBFO News

Amherst, NY – The University at Buffalo will recognize the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks with a special observance that will be held from noon to 3:00 P.M. on Friday, September 9, in the Student Union on the UB North Campus.

The remembrance program will honor victims of the September 11 attacks on the New York City World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as victims of Flight 93 that crashed near Shanksville, Pa.

Members of the university community will pay their respects by striking a memorial bell.

At noon, the University Police Color Guard will present the colors, after which Dennis Black, vice president for university life and services, will remember the 11 UB alumni who perished in the attacks.

The American flag that will be presented at the observance was donated by UB alumnus and New York City Fire Department Captain Steven Spall, SQ-61. In the aftermath of the attack, Spall had the flag flown over the World Trade Center Recovery Site, which he presented to UB in 2002.
