Lenihan puts off plans to leave local democratic party

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Len Lenihan has decided to stay on as chair of the Erie County Democratic Committee.

Lenihan issued a written statement Friday afternoon.

Lenihan recently accepted a new senior role with the New York Democratic Committee. But he says at the "request of numerous town and zone leaders, I am going to remain Erie County Chairman to help candidates in their important races this year."

Lenihan noted that a chairmanship transition during an election year for County Executive would be a huge distraction.

Local democrats held a farewell party in his honor Thursday night in downtown Buffalo.

But now Lenihan said he has decided to put his decision to leave should be "put off until some time after the November election."
