Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Board of Education named a new Interim Superintendent Wednesday night.

The board voted unanimously for Amber Dixon to replace current Superintendent Dr. James Williams.

Dixon currently serves as executive director of evaluation, accountability and project initiatives for the school district.

Dixon will work as the interim replacement until a permanent Superintendent is found, or Dixon herself is awarded the position permanently.

Dixon said she is not focusing on the possibility of becoming permanent. She says she's focusing on her task at hand, fixing public schools.

"I'm going to be the kind of interim superintendent that who gets the job done. As I said, I'm not thinking about my career, I'm not thinking about somebody else's. I'm thinking about the careers of the children in front of us," said Dixon.

Dixon will oversee superintendent duties for the district beginning on September 15th, upon Williams' retirement.

"The task we have in front of us is enormous. There is nothing more critical than the future of our city then education our children better than we have. I promise I will give you every effort I can, and I promise will make changes You will be proud of us and we will make changes we need for the children in the city," said Dixon.

Williams congratulated Amber Dixion. Williams said he is sure she'll do a wonderful job.

The Buffalo School board will meet in special session Friday at noon to continue a discussion on rehiring teacher lay-offs.
