Buffalo, NY – Blue Cross Blue Shield has announced the donation of $1 million over the next ten years to the Olmsted Parks Conservancy, for the renovation and operation of the massive five-acre splash pool in Martin Luther King Junior park.

"This is a very unique partnership for us as BlueCross BlueShield literally wants to walk with us and help us achieve our goals," said Thomas Herrera-Mishler, CEO of Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy.

After repairs are completed, the basin will be used as a splash pad in the summer, a skating rink in the winter, and as a reflecting pool in spring and fall.

"BlueCross BlueShield's mission is to enhance the lives of others, and we have an asset that is accessible to all corners of our community and we want to ensure that families can enjoy this resource fully," said Alphonso O'Neil-White, president and chief executive officer, BlueCross BlueShield.

The wading pool is part of the original Frederick Law Olmsted design of what was then called Humboldt Park.
