Buffalo, NY – 25 years ago, three life long friends attempted to travel cross country on bicycles, but the more than 8,000 mile trip was cut short when two of the bikers were struck by a truck in Texas.
While one of the riders was seriously hurt, Dave Cywinski suffered a broken leg. The three have decided to return to the scene of the accident and complete the trip from Texas back to Buffalo's City Hall.
Their more than 2,000 mile ride is titled "Bike Trip for Kids."
Cywinski tells WBFO News that the purpose of the trip is to encourage kids to persevere in their endeavors. The ride will benefit the Seneca Babcock Community Center in Buffalo and support the Boys and Girls CLubs of America in Geneva, New York.
The men kick off their bike trip later Saturday morning at a news conference with Congressman Brian Higgins, Erie County Executive Chris Collins and other lawmakers at the Seneca Babcock Community Center.
