Sabres coach gets contract extension

By Michael Mroziak

Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff will remain behind the bench next season and beyond.

The Sabres hosted a news conference Friday morning to announce a contract extension for Ruff, who expressed disappointment in the team's elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs but feels optimistic about their future.

"You know I said way back in November I thought we were a play off team...I'm excited, I'm extremely excited," said Ruff. "I think that our goal is to win the cup and I think we can win the cup."

Terms of the contract were not officially disclosed, but owner Terry Pegula again expressed his full faith in Ruff.

"Before I bought the team I had a perception in my mind that Lindy was a good coach," said Pegula. "After doing our due diligence...and talking to a lot of people who had nothing to gain by saying yeah or nay about Lindy's abilities I didn't hear any negative comments about his abilities."

Pegula and Ruff both expressed optimism about the team's future plans.
