Sabres shutout Flyers in game one

By Bert Gambini & Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Sabres took the opening game in their Eastern Conference quarter-final playoff series, beating the Flyers on the road Thursday night 1-0.

Ryan Miller stopped 35 shots for his second career postseason shutout.

The game was scoreless through 2 periods, before Patrick Kaleta netted the game's only goal early in the third. Kalata sat out most of Buffalo's final 20 games because of an injury, but was thrilled to get back on the ice.

"It's awesome....I wanted to go out there and be a positive contribution to the team and I was fortunate enough to get a goal in," said Kaleta.

The teams play game two Saturday night in Philadelphia and return to Buffalo for games 3 and 4 on Monday and Wednesday.
