Grand Island, NY – An elderly Grand Island woman died in a fire at her home Monday morning. Fire officials in say the flames broke out at a home on East River Road near Edgewater Avenue.
Authorities say a neighbor reported the fire, believing a woman was trapped inside. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:50 Monday morning.
The body of 78-year-old Reba Edwards was discovered in an upper room of the two-story frame home.
The Erie County Sheriff's Department says an autopsy will be conducted on her body Tuesday to determine the exact cause of her death.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the Sheriff's Department said it does not appear to be suspicious. The fire caused $70,000 dollars in damage.
