Buffalo, NY – Hundreds of people braved a cold wind chill Saturday to enjoy an early winter night in downtown Buffalo. It was the annual celebration to light the Christmas tree in Fountain Plaza.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Erie County Executive Chris Collins pushed the button to light the tree. Free skating was provided at Rotary Rink. And a fireworks display capped off the festivities.

Young singers walked through the crowds and sang Christmas carols. People walked up and down the Theatre District to enjoy "Magical Memories of Main Street," viewing the festive window displays that once adorned the AM&As windows generations ago. Coffee shops were jammed with patrons seeking a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

Plus, Kenny G was performing his holiday show at the Shea's Performing Arts Center. Road Less Traveled Productions staged its delightful, "A Charlie Brown Christmas: The Music of Vince Guaraldi." James Joyce's "The Dead" was in its final weekend at the Irish Classical Theatre.
